Japanese bulk carrier hit by missile, count of stricken ships rising to 3, Ukraine

Japanese bulk carrier NAMURA QUEEN was hit by Russian missile on Feb 25 at Yizhniy Port outer Anchorage, Ukraine, Black sea, according to ship’s agent report.

 

Superstructure was hit, inflicting serious damages. 2 or more crew were injured, there was fire, which reportedly, is already extinguished. So the photos published earlier and named as photos of shell-hit tanker MILLENIAL SPIRIT, are actually, the photos of missile-hit Japanese bulk carrier.

 

NAMURA QUEEN arrived at Yuzhniy Anchorage on Feb 23, she’s to load grain.
MILLENIAL SPIRIT meanwhile, is said to suffer fire, destroyed lifeboats, other equipment, and crew reportedly, abandoned the ship.

 Overall, by evening Feb 25 Russian shells, bombs and missiles hit at least 3 ships, including Turkish bulk carrier YASA JUPITER, bunker tanker MILLENIAL SPIRIT, and Japanese bulk carrier NAMURA QUEEN.

Tanker hit by fire from Russian Navy ship 12 nm off Ukrainian coast, Black sea

Bunker tanker MILLENIAL SPIRIT was fired upon by Russian Navy ship 12 nm south of Yuzhniy port, Ukraine, Black sea, in the afternoon Feb 25.

 

Tanker was damaged, communication lost, last AIS dated 0930 UTC Feb 25, she was already adrift, disabled.

 

Some photos were posted in social nets and Ukrainian media, but definitely, those aren’t photos of MILLENIAL SPIRIT, but of some big modern tanker. Either posted photos are illustration, or another tanker was hit.

Turkish bulk carrier hit by Russian air strike off Odessa. Navy Seals base off Danube under attack.

Turkish bulk carrier YASA JUPITER was hit by either Russian air strike or Russian missile off Odessa, Black sea, on Feb 24, while en route from Dnepro-Bugskiy to Constanta Romania.

 

According to Turkish MRCC, the ship sustained damages in cargo hold area, but she remained under way, continues voyage. Crew are, thankfully, safe.
 

Russian Navy battle ships, meanwhile, are unfolding attack on a famous Zmeiniy Island (Snake island), just east of Danube estuary. Island is famous for its’ Spetsnaz training base – one of the main navy seals training centers in former Soviet Union. The ships are bombarding the isle with shell fire, probably preparing troops landing, island’s garrison is holding on.
