Suezmax tanker struck by general cargo ship, Qingdao, Yellow sea UPDATE Photo

UPDATE: Cargo and ballast tanks were breached with some of cargo spilling out. Photos are circulating in social media, looking like they are genuine photos of A SYMPHONY, after collision. Starboard list on one of photos may be explained by ballasting, intentionally listing the ship in an attempt to raise hull hole above waterline and stop or decrease cargo leak.

Suezmax oil tanker A SYMPHONY collided with general cargo ship SEA JUSTICE reportedly at around 0900 LT (UTC +8) Apr 27 in Yellow sea south of Qingdao, China.

A SYMPHONY arrived at Rizhao Qingdao anchorage on Apr 15 from Western Africa via Linggi port, Malaysia. Looks like tanker was anchored at the time of accident, her hull is said to be breached portside in ballast tank area.

SEA JUSTICE moved to Qingdao anchorage after collision, and was anchored, no information on her damages. Tanker reportedly, was loaded with some 150,000 tons of bitumen blend, but some cargo could be already offloaded by lighters, considering her almost 2-week long anchorage.

Oil spill was reported, but again, its not exactly known, what kind of liquid was spilled and in what quantity. Probably it was ballast water, but nowadays any substance leaked from cargo ships, not to mention tankers, is an oil spill and ecological disaster.
