CMA CGM OSIRIS operator contacted MB via PR party and
advised as following:
The article: http://maritimebulletin.ru/cma-cgm-new-15000-teu-container-ship-out-of-service-to-be-towed-for-repairs/
has reported that the ship has been towed to repair due to engine failure. This
is not an accurate report. WinGD can confirm that the ship has not suffered
from engine failure.
Comment:
Issue may be whatever it was, more important are, indeed, following issues:
Is the ship to be taken out of service and put under repair at Shanghai ship
repair facilities?
Were all the containers on board offloaded?
What was the character of mishap, is basically, irrelevant.
Container ship CMA CGM OSIRIS suffered engine failure while leaving Xiamen China, in accordance with Far East-Red Sea Service 2(RES2) schedule.
Locals sources said that the giant ship with pilot on board was already underway in narrows of a main shipping channel, and being not under control, she should end up in a serious accident, blocking the channel. Luckily, tugs base is situated near the accident site, so three tugs were able to respond almost immediately, and prevent disaster.
CMA CGM OSIRIS was taken back to berth, inspection found main engine so damaged it needs ship repair yard. More than 5,000 containers were offloaded by Feb 7, CMA CGM OSIRIS is to be towed to ship repair yard at Shanghai.
Containers will be delivered to their destinations by substitute ships. CMA CGM OSIRIS was built in China, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., in 2021.
