Yemen Alleges Missile Attack on Red Sea Port Hit

Al Mukha port, Yemen

Yemen officials have blamed the Houthis for the attack on the port of Al Mukha on Saturday. The port housed humanitarian aid warehouses of some unnamed agencies. The attack included the firing of a ballistic missile and multiple explosive-laden drones.

The rebels have not yet claimed any responsibility related to the attacks but Yemeni officials claim to have found backing evidence to their theory.

Luckily, no human casualties were reported via government sources. Although they mentioned that it caused "huge destruction" to the port and its infrastructure.

The attack on the port city of Mocha in Yemen's south-western coast comes just days after a deadly attack on a Yemeni military base killing at least 30 soldiers.

Yemen, which is currently under a civil war, has seen port infrastructures being attacked in huge numbers.

The Gulf of Aden, which is one of the most important maritime trade routes in the world, has been one of the most targeted routes by terrorist organizations worldwide.

In December 2020, a cargo ship travelling past Yemen came under attack in unforeseen circumstances, prompting the ship to take refuge in the small port city of Nishtun. Similar other attacks have taken place in the past as well, highlighting the increased sensitivity of the important maritime route.
