Korea Line Co., a major shipping affiliates of SM Group (Chairman Woo Oh-hyun), successfully held a delivery ceremony
for the "SM JEJU LNG1", a 7,512CBM (Cubic Meter)-class LNG carrier, at Samsung Heavy Industries' Geoje shipyard on the 18th.
About 40 officials from Korea Gas Corporation, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Korea Shipping (KR) attended the event,
including Kim Chil-bong, vice chairman of the shipping division of SM Group.
SM JEJU LNG1 with eco-friendly engines will travel between Jeju LNG bases for the next 20 years, starting
with the Korea Gas Corporation's first launch of the Tongyeong LNG base on the 21st.
It will take the lead in supplying LNG, an eco-friendly energy source, to Jeju Island, which has relied on thermal power generation.
Korea Line will also add the nation's first LNG bunkering ship, the SM JEJU LNG2, later this year,
with estimated sales generated by the two new shipments reaching about 460 billion won, the company said.
In a congratulatory speech, CEO Kim Chil-bong said, "We will greatly contribute to Jeju's conservation of nature,
job creation and regional economic development, and do our best to operate safely as a LNG carrier representing the Republic of Korea.
